How we select

Inclusion is earned by method, never paid for.

What money can’t buy here

No host can buy a place in a Selection, a position within one, or a spot in Featured experiences. There is no promoted, sponsored, boosted or featured-for-money surface anywhere in SlowCompass, and there is no plan to build one.

Editorial order is set by a human editor. It does not move with popularity, search relevance, how often something is clicked, whether a host uses SlowCompass Studio, or how much business we send them. We do not take commission on bookings.

What verified means

A verified experience is one an editor has been to, or whose facts an editor has confirmed directly with the host. The date on each listing is the last time those facts were checked, not the date it was added.

Where a listing is marked Example, nothing has been visited or verified. Those listings are here to show that the guide works beyond the first Selection, and they say so on every card.

Dates, and why we say “on request”

We only show a date when we hold a current schedule that has been confirmed recently. If we do not, or if the schedule has gone stale, the listing says Dates on request and sends you to the host instead.

We never fill in a plausible-looking date. A guide that invents availability is worse than one that admits it does not know.

What a host can and cannot change

A host can correct a factual error: a price, a meeting point, a duration, an access note, a schedule. A host cannot change our editorial description, our verification label, or whether they appear in a Selection at all.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know. Use the corrections route. We publish the date of the last check on every listing so you can judge how fresh it is.
